Ilse’s Cabinet
Dimensions: 24” x 18”
Medium: Acrylic Guache, colored pencil, paper
For my AP Art Drawing Portfolio, I investigated the topic of the journey of a mid-20th-century European Immigrant coming to America. I looked at different points in an immigrant’s life, as well as the symbolism behind making the treacherous journey. My painting, Ilse’s Cabinet, is a depiction of the side of my great-grandmother’s kitchen cabinet. Throughout my whole life, this display of papers has always been there, evolving with new phone numbers of her neighbors, local business, and our family members from around the world.
This piece was selected in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. As part of being selected, this work was displayed for an entire year in the National Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
